Moulin Rouge

Director: Baz Luhrmann
Year: 2001
Rating: starstarstarstar

Incredible, heart-taking and wildly entertaining story. I've had almost as much fun seeing this movie as I would actually going there. What really caught my eye was the way this movie was presented - if you're up for something completely different and fun, this is your choice!

The use of ramping is rampant in this movie - it's where the action accellerates and decellerates either to a stop or into full motion on-the-fly. You see it all over TV these days, in commercials and alot of movie trailers, it was rather quite popularized by The Matrix with their fight scenes. Blend this with one of the best original soundtracks I've heard in a long time and you have yourself a winner. They did some great stuff with the music, taking old classics (of a variety of genre's) and blending it in with their own original scores and McGregor & Kidman's songs, to provide a seamless soundtrack without a dull moment.

If you are skeptical about musicals, don't worry about this movie. It is a musical, but it is also a musical like you'll never see again. From action to performed music to breaking into a song, everything flows seemlessly as the dialogue keeps on going through song, dance and flutter. You could almost call it a 21st Century Opera executed with a 19th Century flair.

Kidman's role was interesting too, I don't think I've ever seen her play such a wacky part. I bet they had a blast filming this movie! Alot of the energy that went into making this movie really shows in the final product, you can tell that the whole crew worked very well together and had alot of fun. You can't produce this kind of movie and not that have that happen!

Truth, Beauty, Freedom
And above all things,
Love!
