This movie pretty much speaks for itself, the idea is quite straight forward, so I don't have any particular analysis of that aspect of the movie.
There is one thing that I questioned though, and pretty much the only reason I'm writing anything about it on here:
Earlier in the movie, Lawrence Newman (played by William H. Macy), the lead character, told his anti-semitic neighbor he served in the 25th Light Infantry division of the US Army. I forget at this point whether he said he actually went on a tour of duty, but regardless, being in the Army means training for combat, does it not?
Then why did he fight like a 5 year old swinging his jacket at the mob who was outside the corner near his house, attempting to assault him and his wife?
Of course shortly after, he was handed a baseball bat from a Jewish owner of the corner store and they fought off the mob (his wife ran away home safely earlier).
But I would expect much better hand-to-hand (instead of coat-to-face) than his character displayed, if he was a soldier as he said he was at one time.
