Behind Enemy Lines

Director: John Moore
Year: 2001
Rating: star

The cover sure looks better than the movie. It's seriously fake, unrenderably overdone cinematography (which suits a movie like the Matrix more than it does this), and leads to no emotions or cares about any of the characters involved, especially the lead character, Owen Wilson.

There was a scene where a plane is getting chased by SAM missles which was well done visually and pretty cool to see, but it didn't really aid in the real point of the movie in any way, it was just eye candy.

There was no conviction in the plot, and ran through fairly dryly. This wasn't helped by the fact that this movie has some of the worst choices for musical tracks. This felt more like 'Twister' or 'Charlie's Angels' with it's upbeat music and overstylized action/camera/editing work. Basically this movie spits on the seriousness of the situation the pilot was really in.

Just an all around bad war movie that has special effects and cinematography that was well executed in places, but the wrong places - like this movie. If you're just in it for the eye candy, sound and special effects, this one might be ok for you. But if you like to give half a shit about anybody in the movie, steer clear.
