White looks yellow in Photoshop CS3

March 3rd, 2008

Does the color white show as a light yellow for you in Photoshop CS3, but all other applications on your desktop (e.g. Word, web browser) look like a proper white?

Here's a quick test and a solution. Forget messing with the color settings - if you haven't messed with them then chances are they are fine.

Try going Save for Web with your document... does it look correct here? Does white show as a true white? If so the color settings for your document are probably fine. The problem is your proof setup in Photoshop.

Under the View menu you'll find:

View -> Proof Setup

This setting allows you to preview how your image will look after a profile has been applied to it, without actually changing the color settings of your image. Mine was set to "Custom..." when I first opened it.

I tried the different settings and changing it to Monitor RGB fixed the problem for me. The document in Photoshop now displayed correctly, and looked the same when I went Save For Web.

I can finally get on with my life now... !
