One issue I'd like to see covered in GP...

Although the issues of this municipal election focused on city services and major projects… the fact remains that the west end of our downtown is in serious need of a cleaning. Junkies and criminals are bad for business, bad for tourism and bad for the city.

That being said -- I don't think the solution is simply to “tear down the York”. That will just make the problem go somewhere else. And that place may be somewhere we actually like!

So no… the solution is not to tear down … but to relocate! Those people need a place to call their own. We just need to make that place a little further away from us.

So here's an idea... what if we take the York, the sex store, adult store and the pawn shop and move them into a “York Multiplex Centre” out in Evergreen Park somewhere? It would be like a “Community Village” for junkies and gang-bangers. We could even transfer the graffiti from Germaine park out there (much like a fresco) so they feel right at home.

This way, we can rebuild downtown while they drink, stab and steal each other's jean jackets all day long! It's a win-win situation!!!
